DLOAD "Using 80 Col for Notations"

Back to The Unseen 128 Index page...

One of the built-in functions of the 128 is, while in VIC-II 40 column or 64 mode, you can simultaneously keep notations in the VDC 80 column screen for easy reference. Just type on the screen what ever information you wish to note, just don't press RETURN (to avoid ?SYNTAX ERROR); use SHIFT-RETURN instead to move to the next line in your typing.

You can update the VDC screen when it's required, but only if you stay in 128 mode. If you switch to 64 mode, you can no longer update the VDC screen, but the contents that you display there will remain. This can still come in handy for those times you're programming in BASIC 2.0 and have some code snippets on display for easy reference. Or, before going into 64 mode, you could display a disk directory in VDC mode. Then, if you need to see the directory sometime later, you won't have to interrupt what you're doing while in C64 mode. All you'd need to do is switch the input on the monitor; or if you have two monitors connected, the VDC screen will always be available for referencing.
