Glory Quest is a dungeon crawler style video game, created by Joe Garrett, was published in issue number 27 of Loadstar. The game play is very similar to the video game classic, Gauntlet, as your goal is to charge around the dungeon screen, collecting treasure and energy (your hit-points), while a growing hoard of enemies attempt to swarm and overtake you.

Besides using some quick thinking evasive maneuvers, or using the teleportation points scattered throughout each dungeon, you can also protect yourself from the attacking monsters by shooting fireballs at them. In order to do this, you need to move in the direction you wish to shoot your fireball and press the fire button on the joystick.

In order to advance to the next level/dungeon, all you really need to do is get to the vortex portal. However, in order to increase your score and your hit points, you need to collect as much of the treasures and potions on each screen before you move on.

The game is over when the attacking monsters deplete your hit-points, which they do by coming into contact with your character.

As you progress, the number of monsters that appear at the beginning of each level increases, making it a much more challenging task to clear them out to get to the treasure.

I did find this game to have some good replay value. The graphics are simple, but effective, as are the sound effects. There's no soundtrack for the game, but it really doesn't need it. I suppose the only negative thing I can say about the game is that, as the levels get more challenging and there are more monsters on the screen, the game does slow down. This makes it a little frustrating when trying to dispatch baddies. But, apart from this, it's not so bad of a game, in my opinion.

Conclusion

★★★☆ - Simple game-play but challenging. There's some good replay value here even if lacks some of the pop and flash of other games in the genre.
